The 3-day group show 'Great Artists Steal' - based on Picasso's quote: Good Artists Copy, Great Artists Steal - by Popinnart in Amsterdam gave me the opportunity to show my inspirations, because I do steal all the time, as an ode to my heroes. I created an installation with screendumps of google images search results of my resources.

ON KAWARA

On Kawara #12, #13, #14
Ode to On Kawara, who made almost 3,000 Date Paintings, following strict rules, like it had to be painted on the day itself. When he didn't finish it in time, he destroyed it. He used font Futura Bold and painted in the language of the country. So these paintings are in Dutch. But I didn't follow all his rules; I painted into the future and imaged the dates of the show. I also used my own favorite colors.
Oil on canvas, 14 x 17 inches each (35 x 45 cm), 2019
JAMES ROSENQUIST

It was a surprise to discover my own paintings popping up in the search results when I googled the title and artist of the original piece, like Spaghetti by James Rosenquist. In this spaghetti search results also Elaine Sturtevant showed (top, middle), she is the mother of all 'copies', she called it repetitions, and she is one of my biggest heroes. She replicated Jasper Johns, Liechtenstein, Stella, Duchamp and others. Warhol gave Sturtevant one of his silkscreens so she could produce her own versions of his Flowers paintings, and when asked about his technique, he said, "I don't know. Ask Elaine."
